About Liz Brown Proofreading

Professional qualifications and skills …

After a long career in the insurance industry, I turned my passion for language and writing, plus my interest in the law into a second career. I retrained as a proofreader and copyeditor and established my business back in 2012. My background is the Law. I have a degree in Law from Birmingham University and professional post-degree qualifications in insurance. I’ve trained in proofreading and copy-editing to exacting industry standards with the Publishing Training Centre and the Society of Editors and Proofreaders (now the CIEP).

Proofreading and copyediting training and experience …

As a native English speaker, I specialise in working with students, independent academics and businesses, worldwide, helping them to polish and perfect their written English. I learnt French as an adult, so I fully understand the difficulties of written communication in a second – or even third or fourth – language. My wide range of experience proofreading and editing academic work encompasses essays and dissertations ranging from 1,000 to 120,000 words, PhD dissertations and theses, and journal articles for submission. I also proofread all types of business reports, letters, brochures, emails, newsletters, CVs, personal statements, profiles, blog posts and websites.

When I’m not proofreading …

Outside of work, I’m the social media manager for an animal charity, Twilight – the retirement home for dogs in France. I’ve even written and published their biography! I’m also a yoga fanatic, plant-based food junkie and aspiring writer. Check out my personal vegan blog at Vivez Vegan.

Let’s work together …

I’ve lived in France for over ten years, but I can assure you that, wherever I am, you will receive a high-quality job with careful attention to detail. I will personally check your document, not once, but several times, until I am happy with the end product.

The website photos …

Who wants to see boring stock photos of pencils and typewriters? I’ve chosen to share some of my own photos of the Essex coastline in winter. I hope you enjoy them.
